Gorilla Trekking Uganda – UPPG5
On this Gorilla Trekking Uganda adventure, get up close and personal with mountain gorillas. You will be trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the rare mountain gorillas’ home turf. Bwindi forest also boasts a litany of wildlife species such as 350 recorded bird species, 310 species of butterflies, 51 reptiles, 200 tree species, 88 moths and a remarkable 120 mammal species including 10 primate species. Among the ape residents are Chimpanzees, L’Hoest’s, red tailed and blue monkeys, black & white colobus monkeys, baboons, and the highlight of the primate-world “The Great Mountain Gorillas”. Bwindi is home to more than half of the remaining Mountain Gorillas on the planet.
Head to Queen Elizabeth National Park for game drives and a boat cruise. on Kazinga Channel. A wide variety of animals and birds are attraced to the channel. Get up close to one of the world’s largest concentration of hippos and numerous Nile crocodiles. Spy on our chimpanzee cousins, on your chimp trek through wild forest habitat. 5 days Kampala to Kampala.
Itinerary
Day 1 Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
This morning we set off at 6 am for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Take a rest at the equator for photo opportunities and lunch in Mbarara town. We then continue south west where winding roads lead through tiered agricultural lands of Kigezi Highlands into the mountain gorillas’ habitat. We spend the night on the misty mountains in anticipation of our tracking adventure.

Day 2 Gorilla Tracking Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Rise with the sun for breakfast, followed by a briefing by a ranger guide. Set off into the sanctuary for your peak experience of gorilla trekking Uganda. The rain forest is incredibly dense and criss-crossed by numerous animal trails. Your trekking time and terrain vary according to the previous night’s movements of the mountain gorillas. Tracking these gentle giants is rated as one of Africa’s best wildlife watching opportunities.
Additionally, it is possible to spot other mammals. These could include the rare golden monkey, buffalo, elephant, black-fronted duiker, bushbuck, leopard, and giant forest hog. Avid birdwatchers love exploring the diversity of birdlife that Bwindi supports. Return to camp to bask in your memories of the day.

Day 3 Queen Elizabeth National Park
This morning, proceed on a picturesque drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park’s Ishasha sector. Embark on a game drive in the southern circuit, with a picnic lunch. Here we will be searching for unique and rare tree-climbing lions. Throughout the green belt we may sight topis, elephants, and olive baboons, among others.

Day 4 Queen Elizabeth National Park
Rise early for a morning game drive. The tremendous plains and forests of Queen Elizabeth are home to about 95 mammals and over 600 bird species. Pursue lions, leopards, elephants, warthogs, bushbucks, cape buffaloes and waterbucks. After lunch, embark on a boat for a cruise on Kazinga Channel. Joining lakes George and Edward, the channel is habitat to Nile Crocodiles, and possibly the highest concentration of Hippos in Africa. The boat cruise affords a great opportunity for photography, bird watching and game viewing. The prolific bird life is colourful and astonishing with well over 600 resident species. They include Goliath Herons, and Saddle-billed Storks, African Fish Eagles, Egyptian Gees, Cormorants many species of Egrets.

Day 5 Chimp tracking, departure
After breakfast commence a Kyambura Gorge chimpanzee trek. Some of the chimps have been habituated to humans and their sounds carry through the forest very clearly. Watching these creatures in their natural habitat is a fantastic wildlife viewing experience. The Kyambura Game Reserve is also famous for other primate species that include black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, L’hoest guenon, vervet monkeys, and baboon. Finally, we proceed to Kampala, through Fort Portal. Absorb the scenery as we drive over hills, down valleys and through tea plantations, arriving early evening.
