Security
Ensure that luggage is locked using an approved TSA lock and be aware of what is allowed on board and/or in checked luggage. When you are in cities, be sure to wear a money belt and no jewellery. At night, take taxis if you wish to move around. Keep all valuables in a safe, if you can, or locked in your room. Better to not walk around with fancy electronics as you may be inviting a thief.
Do not give anyone money unnecessarily. If in doubt about anything, ask at your hotel.
Do not take photos of bridges, banks, government buildings, borders, or any place where you see armed guards, etc. You could be arrested.
Is it safe for women to travel alone in Africa?
Half of our clients are women traveling on their own, so the answer is yes. We will meet you at the airport upon arrival in Africa, escort you to your accommodations and ensure that you feel safe. We can place you where there are other volunteers so you will have some companionship.
Can I buy travel insurance from BenefacTours?
BenefacTours recommends medical, cancellation/trip interruption and baggage insurance to all travelers for your security and peace of mind. Some of our vendors offer it, although there are many companies in your own country that might be best to get quotes from.
