African Safari Tanzania – TT8

This African Safari Tanzania itinerary includes  the best of Tanzanian game parks. Witness a parade of wildlife on your memorable Tanzanian lodge safari. Visit Arusha, Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, Olduvai Gorge, Serengeti, and Lake Manyara. Begin with marvelling at ancient baobab trees and end with the thrill of seeking out the big five – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. 8 days Arusha to Arusha.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arusha 
Arrive at Kilimanjaro airport. You will be met by our representative and transferred to Arusha for overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 2 Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park arriving in time for lunch and an afternoon of game viewing. Greet lesser kudu, eland, gerenuk and elephants in this beautiful park, spy on tree-climbing lions, chat back to over 300 species of birds, and delight in the multitude of baobab trees. Dinner and overnight are here at a lodge.

Day 3 Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Crater. Descend over 600 meters to the floor of the crater for a day crater tour with picnic lunches. Explore the forest areas that are inhabited by monkeys and elephants, the lake area, where you may see the flamingos, and the open savannah where you may witness predators hunting. Evening is for relaxation where you may delight in the views.

Day 4 Olduvai Gorge, Serengeti National Park
Drive to Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge, the site of Louis and Mary Leakey’s renowned archaeological discoveries. Commonly referred to as “The Cradle of Mankind”, the gorge is a steep-sided ravine in the Great Rift Valley and is one of the most important prehistoric sites in the world.  The Leakey’s findings include some of the man’s earliest known ancestral remains. Enjoy the panoramic views over lunch, visit the gift shop or just relax before embarking on your afternoon game drive in the endless plains of the Serengeti. Look for the great herds of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles or spy on prides of lions lounging in the shade.

Days 5+6 Serengeti National Park

Serengeti means “endless plains” and you will have two full days of game viewing in the there. Count the wildebeest, zebra, warthog, topi, hartebeest, impala, Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelles, hyenas, jackals, lions, leopard, serval, carcal, elephant, baboon, giraffe, large cobras, monkey, eland, bushbuck, dik-dik, waterbuck, reedbuck, hippos, crocodiles, Patas monkey, turaco, antelope, oribi, grey bush duiker, black-and-white colobus, Kori bustard, secretary bird, ostrich, flamingos and more.

Day 7 Lake Manyara National Park
Enjoy an early morning game drive, before breakfast. Return to the lodge for late breakfast and then depart for Ngorongoro Highlands. Lunch is at Gibbs Farm, or similar, and an afternoon visit to the waterfalls before proceeding to Lake Manyara National Park. Some of the most amazingly large pods of hippos congregate at the rivers emerging into the lake, and the birdlife is plentiful. Every imaginable East African animal is found here in abundance. There are great herds of buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and several varieties of gazelle.

Day 8 Depart
After breakfast, you will have a morning game drive in Lake Manyara National Park whose inhabitants include hippo, elephant, buffalo, monkeys, flamingos and other varieties of birdlife. You may even get lucky and spot an elusive tree-climbing lion.  Lunch is at Lake Manyara Lodge before proceeding back to Arusha and Kilimanjaro airport for departure flight.
